UCU advances peacebuilding initiatives through PNVSCA Online TV

Urdaneta City University advanced volunteerism, civic engagement, and peacebuilding as Partner Host of the 17th Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) Online TV episode on September 26, 2026, featuring “Volunteerism for Peace and Social Cohesion.” The engagement brought together the efforts of the Office of the Acting University President (AUP), Office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), External Affairs and Linkages (EAL), Management Information Systems (MIS), and Committee on Publications and Communication Affairs (CPCA) in coordinating the program, technical requirements, facilitation, and communications. UCU representatives Mr. Mark Harris Rubang and Ms. Cheska Junatas hosted the online program. The roundtable discussion explored youth participation, grassroots volunteerism, and everyday acts of service as pathways to stronger and more peaceful communities. PNVSCA Online TV, launched in 2024, features higher education institutions in promoting volunteerism and mobilizing students for nation-building. This partnership highlights SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. #

Esports Exhibition Matchups Fuel UCU SportsFest 2026 Day 2

Day 2 of the Urdaneta City University Sports Festival 2026 continued its high-energy events on September 30, 2026, featuring student-gamers in a series of highly anticipated E-sports exhibition matches. In the women’s division, intense matchups unfolded as the CITE Black Panthresses went head-to-head with the CHTM Lady Phoenix, with the CHTM Lady Phoenix emerging victorious. The Men’s Division delivered fierce rivalries among the CHTM Phoenix, and CEA Soaring Haribons, where the CHTM Phoenix secured the win. Dominating the virtual arena in the Mixed Division, the CBMA Lady Eagles faced off against the CITE Black Panthers from the Men's Division, with the CITE Black Panthers taking the victory. Lastly, CBMA Lady Eagles and CHTM Lady Phoenix went head-to-head in a final showdown CBMA Lady Eagles taking the final match. Players commanded the arena live inside the Holding Area, while student supporters caught all the action live over at the AVR. The activity was made possible through the leadership and support of Hon. Mayor Julio “Rammy” F. Parayno III, Chairman of the UCU Board of Regents, Acting University President Dr. Amihan April C. Mella-Alcazar, Chief Operating Officer Atty. Dar A. Diga, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Josephine S. Lambinicio and Vice President for Administrative Affairs Atty. Michael Henry C. Sevilleja, whose continued backing fosters student development both on the field and in the digital arena.

UCU Holds Gender-Responsive Orientation on Research Ethics

Urdaneta City University strengthens its research ethics capability through a seminar entitled “Upholding Integrity in Research: A Gender-Responsive Information and Orientation Program on UCU Research Ethics,” held on September 30, 2026, at the University Amphitheatre. Led by the UCU Research Ethics Committee (UCUREC), the program aims to strengthen awareness of research ethics among students from the College of Teacher Education, College of Business Management and Accountancy, College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, College of Information and Technology Education and College of Health Sciences, emphasizing research integrity, ethical review, informed consent, data privacy, risk management, and gender-responsive research practices. The morning session focused on the “Overview of Research Ethics Principles and Standards,” facilitated by Dr. Cherry E. Carlos, Non-Affiliated Member of UCUREC, which provided participants with an understanding of fundamental research ethics principles. This was followed by a discussion on the “Roles and Functions of the UCU Research Ethics Committee,” facilitated by Dr. Ficer M. Dofredo, UCUREC Director. In the afternoon, Dr. Dofredo discussed the “Ethical Review Process, Requirements, and Common Issues,” helping participants understand the committee’s role in reviewing research proposals and promoting ethical compliance. Dr. Easter A. Belandres, Member of UCUREC, led the workshop on “Identifying Ethical Issues in Research Proposals,” while Prof. Rhea M. Agibuay facilitated the discussion on “Informed Consent, Data Privacy, And Risk Management”. The seminar was conducted under the leadership of UCU’s Chairman of the Board of Regents and Urdaneta City Mayor Julio “Rammy” F. Parayno III, with the support of the university’s top officials led by Acting University President Dr. Amihan April C. Mella-Alcazar, Chief Operating Officer Atty. Dar A. Diga, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Josephine S. Lambinicio, and Vice President for Administrative Affairs Atty. Michael Henry C. Sevilleja. Through the program, UCU further strengthens its commitment to producing research that is credible, responsible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of society. It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).#

UCU SportsFest 2026 officially opens with a vibrant show of school spirit

Students from all colleges, joined by faculty members and deans, took part in the opening parade today, September 29, 2026, setting the stage for days of athletic competition, camaraderie, and college pride. Adding to the festivities was Freshmen Week, with college booths offering fun activities, games, and prizes for new students, creating more opportunities for interaction beyond the playing field. The series of events will run from September 29 to October 2, 2026. Here is the lineup of competitions for the week-long SportsFest: Cheers and Yells, Dance Sports, E-Games, and the much-anticipated Mr. and Ms. UCU SportsFest 2026. The championship matches in Basketball, Volleyball, Arnis, Badminton, Sepak Takraw, Karatedo, and Table Tennis will also be held, following the initial rounds conducted in July and August 2026. With SportsFest and Freshmen Week happening side by side, UCU opens the celebration of a new academic year with one shared UCU spirit.#

SEPTEMBER 2026 PSYCHOMETRICIAN PASSER

Urdaneta City University is one in celebration with the College of Human Sciences for successfully producing 70 newly registered psychometricians for passing the September 2026 Psychometricians Licensure Examination (PmLE). Demonstrating unwavering commitment to academic excellence, UCU achieved a 92.75% passing rate for first-time takers, surpassing the 91.73% national passing rate. The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced a total of 14,146 passers out of 15,423 examinees nationwide. The licensure examination was conducted from September 1 and 2, 2026.
